A SILVER SALVER ON FOUR FEET, KUTCH INDIA, C.1850. The reverse of the salver bears the inscription "Kutch to AJR From Mrs Postans".
Marianne Postans was in Kutch in the early 1840's, her husband having been posted there by the 15th regiment of the Bombay native infantry. Mrs Postans wrote: 'Cutch; or, Random Sketches, Taken during a Residence in One of the Northern Provinces of Western India; Interspersed with Legends and Traditions, published in 1839.', and two more volumes describing the arts of India.
