Note: Included in this lot is a photograph of the interior of the US Ambassador's residence, with the painting visible on the mantelpiece.
The painting was purchased by former American ambassador to the U.K, Lewis W. Douglas, purportedly with the help of Princess Margaret, who introduced Douglas to the St James gallery who sold the painting to him.
Douglas's daughter Sharman (a close friend to various members of the British royal household) inherited the painting and it was eventually consigned for auction at the Los Angeles Auction House on January 15, 2015, where it sold for $14,400
Excellent overall condition
Small white mark on bottom right corner (possibly a paint splash)
Area of wear on top right corner, although this originally would have been concealed behind frame.
Areas of light craqleur throughout
