A FINE ANGLO-INDIAN 18TH CENTURY VIZAGAPTAM IVORY AND ROSEWOOD TEA CADDY, the meandering foliate ivory borders decorated with lace, the lid with an inlaid 'tree' and ornate cast bronze swing handle, the interior with blue velvet lining and fitted with three compartments containing two cut glass canisters with silver lids, each engraved with the arms of the Egerton family, the front with a fancy shaped and engraved escutcheon with key. 14 x 22.5 x 13cms

The coat of arms signify the marriage of William Egerton (1726-1783) to Mary Kirke (1727-). They had six children. The Egerton's were important landowners. One of the family was made Viscount Brackley, later Earl of Bridgewater. Another became the Duke of Bridgewater who was a well-known industrialist. The Egerton's own Tatton Park in Cheshire.
Good overall appearance with general signs of wear consistent with age and use.
