As Classic & Sports Car magazine observed:
“The 3.2 Carrera is the definitive 1980s 911 — the sweet spot between the rawness of the early cars and the polish of the later generations.”
The Carrera 3.2, built from 1984 to 1989, is considered by many marque experts to be the definitive air-cooled 911 of the 1980s. It represents a near-perfect balance of Porsche’s early driving purity and later mechanical refinement. Power comes from the revered 3.2-litre flat-six (engine code 930/20) - an extensively revised development of the earlier SC motor - delivering 228bhp at 5,900rpm and 284Nm of torque. Notably, the Carrera 3.2 was the first 911 to feature Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection, offering improved throttle response, cold starting, and long-term reliability.
Presented in Grand Prix White over a black leather and cloth interior, this 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet is a superb example of the first year of production for this collectible, impact bumper-era 911. With its striking colour combination, factory spoilers, and Fuchs alloys, this example remains true to its era and specification.
Being an early production model the 911 is fitted with the desirable 915 five-speed manual transmission, prized by purists for its mechanical connection and lighter feel compared to the later G50 gearbox. Driving a Carrera 3.2 remains a deeply analogue experience - lightweight by modern standards, unassisted steering, and communicative controls provide unmatched driver involvement. The cabriolet format adds further appeal, with the soundtrack of the air-cooled flat-six behind the driver in its full glory.
The factory 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels with black centres and anodised rims remain in excellent condition, paired with front rubber lip spoiler and the signature ‘whale tail’ rear spoiler - a combination that not only completes the period look but also contributes to improved high-speed stability. Inside, the car features factory leather/cloth sports seats, black leather door cards, and original black carpets. The black canvas hood remains in good condition with only light creasing from stowage, and has reportedly never been used by the vendor, with the car exclusively used in dry conditions.
A tasteful Momo Prototipo steering wheel is currently fitted, while the original factory wheel is included in the sale. Additional accessories include an indoor fitted cover.
In the current enthusiast ownership since 2020, the car has been used sparingly and cared for well. The car was freshly serviced prior to sale, is supplied with a current MOT, along with a file of paperwork and historical service records. Among these is a significant invoice from 2010 totalling £10,000, which is believed to relate to cosmetic refurbishment, likely including a partial respray. While the invoice itself is not explicit, the paintwork presents in excellent, bright condition with minimal imperfections - supporting the belief that high-quality work was carried out prior to the current ownership. The 911 will be sold wearing its original UK registration, B524 RLO - please note that the private plate shown in the photographs is not included.
The Carrera 3.2 continues to be celebrated for its mechanical honesty and everyday usability - a Porsche that feels special at any speed and connects the driver to the road in a way few modern cars can match. This highly original and tastefully presented Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
