A final development of the TVR’s hairy chested Wedges from the 1980s, the 4000SE was announced in 1988, running until 1991. Largely similar to a previous 390SE, the new model featured a marginally larger displacement, whilst the body was altered with a more rounded nose and a large rear underbody aerofoil. An asymmetrically vented bonnet hinted at what was underneath, and there was a large rear spoiler. A very potent machine by this stage, the 400SE boasted 275bhp within an overall weight of just 1160kg, to deliver 0-60 in a stonking 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 145mph. The model though was pleasingly conventional in its layout, a beefy Rover-sourced 4 litre V8 powering the rear wheels via a five-speed gearbox. Reliable and sensible servicing costs, and a sound track to make you go weak at the knees, all combine to make a very compelling package. 

First registered in June 1990, this rare 400SE is finished in an attractive shade of Eclipse Blue with a beautifully trimmed parchment leather interior, wood veneer dashboard and blue Wilton carpeting. Usefully the TVR is fitted with power steering, and visually the interior benefits from Leven Technology stalks and switches which nicely set the car apart. The two-position targa/convertible roof is a useful feature which allows it to be set in various positions according to weather or preference. With its additional exterior styling, and O.Z racing split rim polished alloys, this 400SE displays impressive road presence. The 400SE is offered with a comprehensive service record, MoT certificate to July 2026 and recent service/tune/waxoiling by specialist Lloyd Developments in Warminster (at a cost of c.£1,500). 

One of only 242 cars produced, and offering supercar performance, rarity and exclusivity in spades, this is a very distinctive TVR offered at an eminently sensible estimate.
