- Fully restored, beautiful example

Founded in 1909 by Giuseppe Gilera near Milan, almost from the start racing was clearly the firm's intention. After WW11 the company produced some very exotic race machines, acquiring the rights to the CNA Roundine race bike, featuring a DOHC supercharged four producing 80hp, and a top speed of 140mph. This engine became the basis for Gilera's very successful race bikes, but sadly by the late 60s due to spiralling costs the company was forced into receivership. Gilera was purchased by Piaggio, going on to produce some great bikes with the Gilera name, one of them being the 1971 Gilera 5V Trail. In 1971 a Gilera 5V Trail famously attempted to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, and although not quite making it, still broke all period records for a motorcycle ascent.

This comprehensively restored Gilera 5V Trail features a rebuilt engine with a 75cc piston and barrel, and is now ready for running in. A five-speed gearbox ensures the bike will keep up with modern traffic. Offered with a NOVA certificate and official dating certificate ahead of UK registration, this increasingly rare model, in super order, is ready for its next mountain adventure.
