GOOD JAPANESE KUTANI AND IMARI PORCELAIN MOUNTED LACQUER CABINET ON STAND
MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)
the cabinet fitted with an arrangement of doors and drawers, mounted throughout with assorted porcelain panels finely painted with dragons, cranes, crashing waves, blossoming flowers and various vegetation, all reserved against a gilt-trellis decorated black lacquer ground, raised on a conforming stand

Good overall appearance.
There are some lifting and missing lacquer in places, most noticeable is the rear base of the cabinet with almost total loss to the black lacquer; some sections have been placed by the family in a drawer.
Left side door is missing porcelain panel ad has a Chinese silk fabric panel. One gilt bronze 'bat' handle is detached, but again in a drawer.
Old marks and scratches consistent with age and use.
This piece was purchased at House & Sons Auction in 1974 for £3400.
