The VW Camper has always conjured up images of freedom and adventure, any image of the great outdoors wouldn't be complete without a 'Westy' or 'Splitty' in the picture. The Californian West Coast has moved the vision to iconic status as generations have 'lived the dream' with endless summers of beaches and surfing. . . . peace and love for the less inclined.

Originally sourced from Sacramento, California, this 1971 bay window camper was subject to much restoration in previous ownership. Previously acquired in 2010, the camper was stripped to bare metal, any minor repairs made (such as a replacement battery tray, driver’s side cab floor, bottom windscreen panel and a minor repair to the cargo area floor), and then refinished in Elm Green with a white roof. The look was completed with a rear Safari window, new chrome and rubber trims, whilst the suspension was lowered and attractive SSP “Fook” wheels fitted, with original Porsche centre caps. The single port 1600cc motor was rebuilt by specialist Revesby VW Garage. Attention then moved to the interior, which was fitted out by a carpenter in a “Devon” style; amongst other features two bench seats form the bed, a birch ply headlining is installed, and a useful Propex heater. The restoration work is detailed in a July 2012 article in the Volksworld magazine Camper & Bus. 

In current ownership since around 2012, the VW has resided between the UK and the channel islands, more recently being dry stored and seldom used, hence now being offered for sale. A running and driving van which will now benefit some mechanical checking over and cosmetic attention to the paintwork, we understand the camper will be offered with a new MoT certificate prior to sale.
