ATTRIBUTED TO MARIANO SALVADOR MAELLA (1739-1819) PENCIL ON PAPER PORTRAIT OF KING CHARLES IV OF SPAIN, with gallery labels verso, 22 x 15.5 cm
NB: Mariano Maella was appointed in 1774 as court painter to King Charles IV, where he became well know for his portraits .He and Francisco Goya were the primary court painters.This sympathetic and simple portrait shows the king without all the royal trappings.
