AN EARLY VICTORIAN SILVER SNUFF BOX, by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham, 1843, the oval lobed box with engraved foliate decoration, the cartouche bears the following inscription:


'Presented by William Holmes Esq. to Mr John Dunne, Inspector of the Bath Police as as testimonial of his exemplary conduct and in consideration of the valuable services he has rendered to the City in the performance of his duties, and wishing him every happiness and prosperity in his new appointment in the County of Kent, 14th November 1850'
