A RARE PAIR OF CHINESE RED SOAPSTONE SEALS

清 十九世纪 寿山石印章一对
each finely carved with snakes, fish, ducks, frogs, dragons, crabs, tortoise, crayfish and other mythical animals on a wave ground above lotus leaves and crested waves
4.5cm high

PROVENANCE: From a private French collection, Burgundy.

NOTE: The seals are originally written by the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei (1701-1761) and translate as: Kong shan xin yu hou, tian qi wan lai qiu (The empty mountains feel fresh after the rain, autumn is approaching at dusk). Ming yue song jian zhao, qing quan shi shang liu (Moonlight shines through the pine forest, a limpid stream flows over the rocks.)
