A BRONZE SCULPTURE BY RENZO JARNO VANDI REPRESENTING 1964 F1 WORLD CHAMPION JOHN SURTEES AT THE WHEEL OF HIS FERRARI 158
In his book Piloti che Gente, Enzo Ferrari describes John Surtees as a serious driver, conscientiously preparing himself for racing, paying attention to the smallest particular, always looking for a detail that could give him an edge; as a real fighter also. The British driver won the 1964 F1 Drivers World Championship at the wheel of a Ferrari 158, fitted with an 8-cylinder engine of 1.5 litre capacity. The man and his machine were sculpted in a striking way by Renzo Jarno Vandi. It took the young Italian sculptor over two years and 2,000 work hours to achieve this unique piece, measuring about 75 cm long (scale 1/5) and weighing over 20 kg.
