LOUIS XV PASTORAL NEEDLEWORK PANEL
MID 18TH CENTURY
worked in polychrome wool and silk, in gros petit point tent stitch, depicting a seated group of young ladies and a hurdy gurdy player in a landscape setting with a house in the distance, within a border of strapwork with elongated foliate motifs, reserved against a brown-ground, ebonized frame
76cm x 66cm, frame 87.5cm x 77.5cm
PROVENANCE: Private London Collection; purchased Sotheby's, London, 21st April 2009, formerly Christie's, London, The Mayorcas Collection, 12th February 1999.
As far as I am aware, there is no signature on this panel.
The needlework is in good order. There is a very small section of frayed wool in the very top right corner, but this does not adversely affect the overall appearance
