The DOT cycle and motorcycle company was established in 1903 by Harry Reed, in Salford Manchester. After World War 11, the company was then under the ownership of Burnard Scott Wade.
The company broke into the 3 wheeled market, with the DOT motor truck, which was essentially the rear half of a Dot motorcycle and a modified front section. The vehicle was powered by a 197 Villiers 2 stroke engine, these were used by ice cream vendors and rickshaws. The Villiers-engined motorcycles built by DOT became a major force to be reckoned with in competition trials and scrambles, and still are today.
The name DOT stands for Devoid Of Trouble, the DOT factory still exists at Ellesmere Street, Hulme, Manchester, producing and selling spares for these post-war machines.
372NUO has been part of a private collection for over 20 years and used in competition trials. The engine has been professionally prepared and is ready for forthcoming events.
