PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Vilhelm Meyer (1878-1935) and thence by decent.
Vilhelm was born in Copenhagen and was the youngest son of eight children. After completing college, he soon became a salesman for the firm Moses & Son, where he travelled regularly to Denmark, and watched with fascination the Ships returning with exotic cargoes. In 1902 Vilhelm left the family firm of Moses & Co to join The Danish Asiatic Company with whom he travelled to China that same year. After six months he had to seek new employment and joined the Russo-Chinese bank.
In 1905 he set up the partnership of Andersen, Meyer & Co., Ltd, and would later become the sole owner of the firm in 1907. Vilhelm remained in China until his death in Shanghai in 1935.
Good overall condition with age related wear. The lower part of the interior has calcium build up
