The Triumph TR6 was the best-selling Triumph in history when production ended in 1976, but was later surpassed by the TR7. More than 94,000 TR6s were built, ninety per cent of them to US specification. The TR6 was a refined sports car. It featured pile carpets on floors and boot (trunk), plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation. In the US, it featured the six-cylinder engine that was carried over from the TR250, while the UK version had a more powerful fuel-injected engine from the TR5 that included the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system. It traces its lineage back to the four-cylinder Triumphs: TR4, TR4A, TR3/TR3A and TR2. This stylish six-cylinder sports car is regarded by some as the last true Triumph.

A desirable 150bhp model, this wonderful example was first supplied in August of 1971 via agent Carrs Auto Sales of Croydon in Surrey, specified in its current colour scheme of Saffron Yellow with Ambla black trim, black soft top, and with the options of Overdrive, Static seat belts, and Michelin 165 x 15 XAS tyres.

In the intervening 50 or so years an astonishing amount of documentation has been accrued to support the care and attention lavished upon the car. Three boxes containing extensive documentation provide a detailed narrative from first purchase to recent maintenance, including the original bill of sale, extensive service records, first owner's user manual, service book and warranty card, a rare manual supplied by Triumph to garage service departments, photographs including restoration in 1997, and modern Heritage Certificate.

Works carried out in order to maintain condition and improve performance include a new chassis, engine/injection rebuild with unleaded head conversion, overhauled gearbox/overdrive units, steering rack, cooling fan, adjustable shock absorbers, Revolution alloy wheels, lowered and uprated springs, safety roll bar, the fitting of a Burr Maple dashboard and door cappings, and a classic riveted wooden steering wheel.

Offered complete with MOT certificates dating to 1976, receipts dating to 1971, and a copy of a feature of the car in Classic Cars magazine, this is possibly the best historied TR6 we have had the pleasure to sell.
