A CHINESE WHITE JADE CARVING OF TWO GEESE
LATE QIANLONG DYNASTY, CIRCA 1780

with their heads turned towards each other, each holding a branch of flowering lotus in their beaks, the wings etched in a crosshatch design with wood stand

PROVENANCE: From the collection of Colonel Mary M. Munro, who was the first woman colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps. She graduated from St. Andrews University in 1936 before joining the army. Her last station was in Hong Kong in the 1960s, where she collected her jade collection. 
Twelve other pieces from her collection were included by Marchant in their 75th Anniversary Exhibition in 2000 of Post-Archaic Chinese Jades from Private Collections.

Together with A GROUP OF MINIATURE JADE ORNAMENTS, 19TH CENTURY comprising four white jade hanging ornaments, three carved as a bearded sage another as a white jade vase; two carnelian figural pendants and two spinach jade baskets of flowers
