A RARE PAIR OF CHINESE ARMORIAL PLATES,
YONGZHENG, CIRCA 1724
清雍正 粉彩纹章瓷盘
约1724年
each painted with a rare coat of arms of Frederick with Marescoe, with nine white birds on a diamond-shaped shield, with shells and fish on the borders
22.3cm diameter

PROVENANCE: From the collection of Johan Lilliehöök (1865-1949), Swedish diplomat, Consul General in Shanghai 1922-1932.

NOTE: The service was made for Leonora, widower of Thomas Frederick of Westminster, who died in June 1720. The service was probably made for her son and heir, Sir John. A similar plate from this rare service is illustrated by David Sanctuary Howard in Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Volume I, D2 p. 202.
