Faster, better balanced and with a higher quality inside with improved appointment, fit and finish, the 997 was arguably the first 911 to really benefit from the success of the Cayenne and the cash injection therewith. The 997 was wider and longer with a more confident grasp of the road, rounding off ‘typical 911’ dynamic shortcomings. The sixth-generation Turbo was launched in June 2006, the first petrol-engine production car in the world to feature turbochargers with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG), enabling the entire exhaust gas flow to be used optimally for the turbocharging at all engine speeds. Consequently at 480 bhp power was up by around 60 bhp compared to the 996 Turbo, despite an unaltered displacement of 3.6 litres. In combination with the optional ‘Sport Chrono Package’, it was possible to activate a so-called overboost at full acceleration at the push of a button, catapulting the car from 80 to 120 km/h in 3.5 seconds – 0.3 seconds faster than in the manual 911 Turbo in ‘normal’ mode. After the model update in 2010, the 3.6-litre engine was replaced by a 3.8-litre engine producing now 500 bhp, and for the first time the seven-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK). The Turbo of the 997 generation combined the best of all the previous models with technical evolution and a vision of the future.

The Gen 2 Turbo S, retailing at £123,263 when new, raised peak power to 523 bhp, thanks to a remap, larger intercoolers, larger compressor wheels in the turbos and revised intake valve timing. As a result the Turbo S is phenomenally quick, with a claimed 3.3sec to 62mph - the PDK gearbox making all this power and performance easily accessible, just hit the throttle and hold on tight! Delivering possibly all the performance you’ll ever need, with driveability that flatters as opposed to intimidates, the 997 Turbo is the definitive modern classic high performance Porsche.

This wonderful 2011 Porsche 911 (997) Turbo S was specified when new in special order GT Silver, with a Carrera red leather interior, adaptive sports seats, Sport Chrono package, Bose surround system, carbon trim, PCCB Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes, and 19″ RS Spyder wheels.

A LHD example, we understand the Porsche arrived in the UK in 2017 when the owner arrived from Dubai. Being offered complete with a comprehensive service record to support its 33,000 or so miles, we understand the last major service was carried out by Porsche Exeter in 2023.

Ideal for a UK resident who travels occasionally into mainland Europe, this range-topping 997 delivers the perfect blend of earth-shattering performance with genuine day-to-day usability. The 997 Turbo S is, we must say, a very enticing proposition.
