A FINE GREY/GREEN CARVED STONE FIGURE OF SHIVA,
INDIAN, 12TH/14TH CENTURY,
depicted standing with right arm raised but sheared off in antiquity, the left arm with hand on hip, the whole with finely detailed facial features, jewelled conical headdress, the body festooned with jewels and strings, the stele truncated just below the knees, the grey/green schist shot with some small veins and some crystalline structures.
38 x 12 x 7 cms
PROVENANCE: Angela Trueb (nee Clement-Davies) Collection
NOTE: This figure is a wonderfully executed and finely detailed example of the carvers art. The headdress, face and bodily adornments are exquisitely executed and remain in remarkably crisp condition despite the other losses to the figure.
