the engine turned gilt dial with Roman numerals, over the circular enamel perpetual calendar, with moonphase aperture over subsidiary day and date dials, all within an outer register of the months and the equation of time, within a slate and marble domed case with ornate gilt-bronze mounts

NOTE: Thomas Boxell was born in Brighton in 1823 where he apprenticed at a local watchmaker until 1845 - by the age of twenty-two he was running his own business as a watchmaker and jeweller at 55/56 Albion Street, Brighton. Boxell re-located the business to 40 King's Road in 1856, and in 1859 the Sussex Post Office records listed Boxell's business as 'watchmaker & jeweller' 43 King's Road Brighton.
