superbly carved in relief with pairs of archaic-style phoenix birds amongst scrolls encircling a central flowerhead, the sides carved with archaic-style taotie masks and scrolls

PROVENANCE: From the collection of the diplomat Eric Crowe, son of the diplomat Sir Eyre Crowe (1864-1965), and thence by descent to Sir Bryan Crowe (1938-2020).
