RARE CANTONESE CARVED IVORY 'KING GEORGE AND QUEEN CHARLOTTE' CHESS SET
QING DYNASTY, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
the whites modelled with George III and Charlotte as king and queen, the stained pieces with the Emperor Qianlong and Empress, the white pawns as musketeers, the reds as shield-bearing swordsmen, the rooks in the form of elephants with mahouts and castellated turrets on their backs, on a later ebonized wooden base
