A SPITALFIELD SILK LADY'S ROBE, CIRCA 1740;
the silk altered and with later lace trims
measures approx. 128cm from nape of neck to hem x approx. 33cm across back of waist
Lace collar with numerous holes. What seems to be later stitching around the lace cuffs. Right sleeve looks to have been repaired. Patch repair under both armpits. Damage, splits, tears and discoloration under both armpirs. Foxing on back pleated section. Some loose thread on the embroidered flowers around collar. Numerous stains and marks on skirt. Small hole/split on back of skirt. Stitched repairs on either side of waist . Skirt hem is frayed all the way around and has come undone in places with two significant tears to the lining, and repairs. The embroidery is in overall good condition. Colours slightly muted due to age. Please see images.
