WWII JAPANESE OFFICER'S SHIN GUNTO/KATANA SWORD, with 67cm steel single edged blade, foliate cast brass tsuba, bound fish-skin grip with brass mounts, inscribed and painted marks to tang; in lacquered wooden scabbard with leather combat covering.

Notes: This Japanese Officer’s Sword was presented to Second Lieutenant ECS Sichel 3rd SSVF (Straits Settlement Volunteer Force) at the POW Camp where he was a prisoner of war, on or about the date of the Japanese surrender to the Allies 4th September 1945.
Grip and oval mount are loose and easily detached
Hilt and tsuba rusted with wear
Blade remains highly polished and of good appearance, with one small area with rust marks.
Surface scratches and scuff marks also visible on the blade
