One specialist motorcycle manufacturer stood head and shoulders above others in the 1970s. His name was Colin Seeley. Seeley admits, as a specialist bike developer, the Seeley Honda CB 750 is the one offering he was most proud of. His company was a minnow compared to the mighty Honda, but he built a bike that handled better than any CB750, and it still looks stunning today.
The Seeley Honda used the CB750’s F2 four cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft, larger inlet and exhaust valves than the F1, giving 6 bhp more at 73 bhp. Although not as sophisticated as other Japanese fours, the Honda unit is nevertheless powerful and very smooth, giving the bike a top speed of just over 120mph.
When Phil Read won the Isle of Man's inaugural Formula 1 TT on a works Honda CB750 in 1977, the stage was set for a special version of Honda's trend setting superbike. As a result, Honda commissioned Colin Seeley to build a batch of replicas of Read's winning machine. Not to be confused with the Seeley Honda which was a semi race bike, using an especially built Seeley frame and gained fame on the race track.
In 1977 Seeley produced for Honda a limited-production of 150 Phil Read Replica TT Formula 1 race-styled roadsters based on the CB750F2 later followed by the White and Red Honda Britain. The Seeley Honda Britain, was built in very limited numbers using a Phil Read style fairing and seat unit, alloy petrol tank, modified side panels, front mudguard and a Seeley reverse cone exhaust system. The bike was known as the Honda Britain 750 SS
We understand this beautiful 1979 Seeely Honda Britain 750SS has covered just 5,600 miles from new, as indicated by a number of older MoT certificates to help confirm the mileage.
JGC 451T was in storage for some 35 years before undergoing a comprehensive restoration over a 5 year period, to produce this fabulous example. A rare motorcycle in good running order, this is a rare opportunity for the collector.
